On behalf of the Executive Board of Local Union 808, I am proud to extend a warm welcome to you as a member of the Laborers’ International Union of North America and specifically, the Rhode Island Judicial, Professional and Technical Employees.
The principle behind public employee union participation is straightforward. By joining together, we gain strength in numbers so we can have a voice at work. We negotiate a contract with our employers for things such as a fair and safe workplace, better wages, a secure retirement and family-friendly policies such as paid sick leave and scheduling hours. We believe that having a voice in how our jobs get done creates a more stable, productive workforce that provides better services to the public.
This digital handbook is designed to provide you with useful information regarding your rights and responsibilities, as well as to provide you with answers to some routine questions. We hope that you will join us at our monthly meetings and look for updates on our newsletter/blog, which will also appear on this site.
We also encourage you to look up your job steward and ask them any questions you may have or call the office here in Providence at 401-331-8080.
Here at Local 808, we are committed to working diligently for each and every member. Because, we believe, as a public employee, you are one of Rhode Island’s most valuable resources.
Fraternally yours,
Karen Hazard
Business Manager
